Therese Claire Hauber, age 89 of Park Rapids passed away peacefully on January 1st 2026.
Therese was born June 20th, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN. She spent her first few years at St. Cloud Orphanage. There, in 1941 she met and was adopted by Frank and Sarah Keaveny. The family resided on a farm in Tintah, MN until the passing of her father in 1948. Sarah moved the family (Therese and Quentin) to Park Rapids. Therese graduated from St. Francis High School in 1956.
After high school she returned to Park Rapids to begin her life’s journey.
In 1959 she married Carl Hauber. Together they welcomed 4 children. The couple separated 1965 and divorced years later. Therese along with the help of family and friends raised a loving family.
Therese enjoyed needle point, crocheting, knitting, coloring, puzzles and quilting. Over the last 10 years she’s stitched over 80 quilts for family and friends. Most days, when you visited her at Diamond Willow, you would find her at her sewing machine. She also was a terrific cook and candy maker. Her peanut brittle is legendary. Her chocolate chip and sugar cookie recipes have been passed along. Suppers in the summer almost always had cream peas and potatoes with glorified rice. She made the best malts on a hot summer evening.
Therese loved to meet people and to find out as much as she could about them. Seems she knew most everyone in town. She was always on the go visiting family, friends, frequenting local restaurants or just out for ride. Therese was involved with the Kinship program where her and her Kinship daughter became lifelong friends.
Her working years spanned many jobs. Wringer Manufacturing, delivering the Enterprise newspaper, Park Rapids Schools, and St. Joseph’s Hospital from which she retired. Retirement was short as she went to work at McDonalds for over 10 years. Most mornings you would find her working drive-through where many a customer got to know her.
Therese is survived by her children Dan (Debbie), Fran (Pam), Mike (Diana), Laurie (Bob) Chiles, 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Sarah Keaveny and brother Quentin.
Saturday June 20th would have been Therese’s 90th birthday. On the 20th we will have a Prayer Service at 1:00pm with a Celebration of her birth and life at 1:30pm at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN.
