Roy Stanley Barten

Roy Stanley Barten, age 83 of Park Rapids, MN passed into eternal life on May 17,2023 at St. Mary's/Essentia Hospital in Duluth, MN. Roy was born on October 6, 1939 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Robert and Caroline (Krabbenhoft) Barten. He attended public Schools in Maquoketa and graduated from Maquoketa High School. He married Ruth Rickertsen and they were blessed with six children. Roy worked for the John Deere Company and also farmed until his retirement. In the late 1990's he moved to Park Rapids, MN where he pursued his love of fishing and woodworking. He married Viola Overlees on March 21, 1998 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Viola; his children: Lon Barten, Shawn Barten and Sheila Witt; his eight dearly loved grandchildren: Monica Barten, Dustin Barten, Shawn Jr., Briana Witt, Jacob Witt, Katlin Marx, Ashley Key, Jessica Stoller; nine precious great grandchildren; his 6 surviving siblings: Lola Wilkins, Ron Barten, Lloyd Barten, Lila Smith, Ronda Tietjens, Rojean Behrens and Viola's daughters: Dianne Bonner, Cheryl (Larry) Frehse and their descendants. Roy was preceded in death by 3 children: Lynn Barten, Lee Barten, and Sally Atwater; l grandchild: Leah Barten; and three siblings: Rosie Brandenburg, Lynette Carnicle, and Loren Barten. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, May 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. James Neubauer officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. Michael Poole will sing "The Lord's Prayer". The casket bearers will be Orv Carlson, Ron Jensen, Jerry Siegel, Randy McFarren, Jerry Dahms and Dan Strickler. Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids.
