ROSEMARY HELEN CUMBER February 7, 1932 – March 14, 2020 Rosemary Helen Cumber, age 88, a long time Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully passed from this life to eternal life on Saturday, March 14, 2020 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loved ones. Rosemary was born on February 7, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN to George and Helen (Erickson) Crandall. It was in Wayzata, MN that she attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1950. As a young woman, Rosemary gained employment in Minneapolis with Midwest Stores where she worked both as a secretary and a receptionist. On March 29, 1952, she was united in marriage to Roland “Sonny” Cumber at the Oak Knoll Lutheran Church in Oak Knoll, MN. This union was blessed with five children: Rodney, Bruce, Jeffrey, Trudy, and Tandra. The young couple made their first home in Anoka, MN where Rosemary devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious cakes. Rosemary enjoyed working as a bank teller in a career that spanned ten years employed by the 1st National Bank of Minneapolis and later by the 1st State Bank of Coon Rapids. In 1971, they ventured north to Park Rapids where they purchased a farm west of town. Rosemary enjoyed working alongside Sonny helping with the farm work. In 1980, they retired from actively farming; but, continued to live on the farm until 1993 when they moved into Park Rapids. Rosemary was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses where she actively served in ministry to others. She also enjoyed being a member of the Baker’s Dozen Homemaker’s Club. Rosemary loved to travel and had toured throughout the United States with Sonny. She was a voracious reader and also enjoyed fishing. Above all, Rosemary loved to spend time with her family and make precious memories with those she loved with all her heart. Rosemary will be remembered by her four children: Rodney (Kathleen) Cumber of Baltimore, Maryland; Bruce (Irene) Cumber of Park Rapids, Trudy (Allen) Whittlef of Florida and Tandra Waddle of Park Rapids; 11 dearly loved grandchildren, 15 precious great-grandchildren, and one very special great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Peggy (Jim) Matthews of Maple Grove, MN and a brother, George Crandall of Maitland, FL; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rosemary had endured the heartache of losing her beloved husband and soulmate, Sonny in 2018 and tragically losing her son, Jeff in a scuba diving accident in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Crandall. Memorial services will be held June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home, Park Rapids, MN.
