Raymond E. Moorhouse

Raymond English Moorhouse, age 87, a long-time Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully entered eternity on Saturday morning, November 28, 2020, at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids with his loved ones at his side. Ray was born on December 23, 1932, in Kansas City, MO to Raymond H and Hattie (Smith) Moorhouse. He attended public schools in Kansas City through the eighth grade. In 1946, he moved with his parents to the Park Rapids area where his parents ran the Weiglewood Resort on beautiful Two Inlets Lake. Ray attended the Park Rapids High School where he graduated with the Class of 1951. Ray was united in marriage to Mavis Olson in Menahga, MN on October 11, 1952. They were blessed with 11 children: Steve, Mike, Leslie, Greg, Becky, Jeff, Kelly, Christine, Mark, Lee, and Kenny. Ray’s career started as a crane operator in Minneapolis. He also bartended at the Nevis Muni. His love of the outdoors let him also make a living trapping, landscaping, and eventually having a landscaping business. Ray was an outdoorsman who enjoyed working in the woods logging throughout his lifetime. He also worked at area sawmills. He loved to hunt and fish. Each spring he would nurture a large vegetable garden into fruitful abundance to nourish his large family. On February 8, 1996, he was deeply saddened with the sudden passing of his loving wife, Mavis. In 2004, he grieved the death of his son, Mike. In spite of the pain of his losses, Ray always kept an optimistic view of life and will be remembered for his happy enthusiasm and quick wit. He will be lovingly remembered by his ten children: Steve (Viola) Moorhouse of Aitkin, MN, Leslie (Diane) Moorhouse of Townsend, MT., Greg (Linda) Moorhouse of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Becky ( Alby) Gartner of Richmond, MN, Jeff, Moorhouse of Park Rapids, MN, Kelley (Dick) Wolher of South Sioux City, NE, Christine (Dan) Billet of Andover, MN, Mark Moorhouse of Mpls, Lee (Lynn) Moorhouse and Kenny (Jody) Moorhouse all of Park Rapids, MN; 36 dearly loved grandchildren and 44 precious great-grandchildren; one brother, Tim (Lupe) Moorhouse of Garden Grove, CA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; his son, Mike; his grandsons: Paul and Shaun; his brother; Milo and his special friend Dar Luke. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN with Rev. Steven Norby officiating. His grandchildren will serve as his urn bearers.
