NORMA LUCILLE LAKE

March 13, 1925 – May 7, 2020

      Norma Lucille Lake, a long-time resident of Menahga, MN, died Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home. 

      Norma was born on March 13, 1925 in Ortonville, MN to George and Gladys (Davis) Governor.  She grew up as the second child in a family of thirteen.  On February 20, 1944 she married Jalmer A. Lake, her husband for 51 years, until his death in 1995.  Norma and Jalmer raised four children throughout their busy lives.  Norma was a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII, helped with chores on the farm, and was a nurse’s aide.  Norma and Jalmer owned and operated Arbo Store outside Grand Rapids, MN for many years.  She very proudly got her GED and driver’s license at age 42.  She was also a home health aide in her later years.  She enjoyed cooking and baking and there was always a pot of coffee on for visitors.  As she got older, she especially loved visiting with friends, relatives, and grandchildren.

      A special thanks to the workers (and friends) at the Green Pine Assisted Living for all the great care and memories they helped Norma create, and to the nursing home for the wonderful care in her final months.  I think they would all agree that Norma was a feisty little lady.

      Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dennis and Faye Lake, Kathleen and Dennis Yurrick, Brenda and Dan Komppa, and David and Peggy Lake; five sisters: Loraine "Toots", Marlene "Dena", Lois, Francis "Peewee", and Marylou; three brothers: Warren, Merle, and Virgil; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

      Norma is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jalmer; two sisters, and one brother.

      Private family services will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the First English Lutheran Church, Menahga, MN. with Pastor James Hallaway officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM at the Meadow Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery.
