Millie (Boyd) Miller

Millie (Boyd) Miller, age 88, of Lake Alice, MN, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at her home with her family by her side.

Millie Boyd was born at home on August 26, 1936, in Berner Township, MN, the daughter of the late Ormanzo and Lillian (Erickson) Boyd. She lived in Berner until age 8 when her family moved to Lake Alice, MN. She attended Lake Alice Country School until 8th grade and then Bemidji High School, graduating in 1954. On October 22, 1955, she was married to Richard “Dick” Miller at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George, MN. They then moved to the Iron Range where she worked for Sears, Precision Industries, and Precision Fabrics. They then moved back to her family home in Lake Alice where they had a dairy farm for over 20 years. She also owned and operated Grandpa’s Barn and Dream Cone near Lake Itasca until Dick’s passing. She then worked as a cook at Park Rapids High School until well into her 70s. In her free time, she enjoyed coffee, travel, and visiting and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You also never knew what you would find in her bathroom. Millie loved animals other than traditional livestock. She also took care of buffalo, deer, emu, bears, and many others.

Millie is survived by her children, Margie (Paul) Netland, Jahred Boyd, and Randy (Sherill) Miller; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Kahlstorf; and sisters-in-law, Betty Hooker, and Carol Buckingham; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Laura, and Karen; parents; grandson John; brothers, Larry, and Gary Boyd; and sisters, Orla Holleman and Bonnie Winge.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George, MN, with a time for visitation one hour before. The burial will take place immediately after at Lake Alice Cemetery.
