Martha Helen Gartner

July 29, 1927 — December 25, 2020

Martha Helen (Schroeder) Gartner of Two Inlets, MN passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020, at Crystal Brook Assisted Living of Park Rapids. She was 93 years old. Martha was born on July 29, 1927, in Farming, Minnesota. She was the sixth of eight children born to William and Elizabeth (Behnen) Schroeder. In 1933, her family moved to the Two Inlets area. She attended Poplar Grove Country School. She was employed at St Joseph’s Hospital, Ringer Mfg., and the Piney Park Resort. On October 27, 1952, she married Albert Gartner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Two Inlets. They were blessed with nine children. In 1954, they moved to their lifetime home/farm in Two Inlets. Their home was a very welcoming home. There was always room for one more at the kitchen table for a full meal or for one of her famous cinnamon rolls, homemade bread, a cup of coffee, or hot cocoa. Martha enjoyed immensely the many visits from her family, especially her nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a very talented lady, sewing many beautiful quilts, crocheting afghans, tablecloths, and a Last Supper Picture, along with many other crafts. She also spent countless hours in her garden, canning, and freezing the vegetables and fruits. She was a faithful lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She took part in many of the Church Guild events. The friends she had in the Martha Club meant the world to her. Martha also worked with her husband as caretakers of the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her Parents; Grandson, Scott W. Gartner; Son-in-law, Jerry Weiss; two sisters: Lydia Maehren and Veronica Pasek; three brothers: Eddie, Joseph, and Albert Schroeder. She is survived by her nine children, Carol (Bob) Hulla, John Gartner, Leo (Lynn) Gartner, Rose (Jim) Higgins, Ann (Greg) Lempola, Dennis (Renee) Gartner, Roger (Patty) Gartner, Bernie (Tracy) Gartner, George (Heather) Gartner; 22 Grandchildren, and 17 Great Grandchildren; her siblings, Sister Carol Jean Schroeder, OSB; and Alex (Verona) Schroeder, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
