Louis Paul Johnson, age 78, of Park Rapids, passed away, Sunday, March 15, 2026 in Alexandria, Minnesota with his son, Louis Paul Johnson II, by his side.

Louis Paul “Bucky “Johnson was born on July 10, 1947 to Clifford and Lillian (Barnett) Johnson in Breckenridge, MN. He graduated 1967 from Breckenridge High School, after graduation he went into the service. He served two tours in the US Army his first from 1967 to ‘70 where he was a small motor vehicle mechanic and his second tour from ‘74 to ‘77 where he was a helicopter mechanic. Louis met his first wife, Cheryl J. Meyer and they were married on March 7, 1975 at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland. They were blessed with two children, Louis Paul Johnson II and Ashley Jean Johnson.

Louis worked many jobs including Custom Harvesting and then when he moved to Park Rapids worked for Heritage Nursing Home, Wayne Pike Carrot Farm, Harold Weaver bailing hay and farming, Clyde Johnson Construction, Melvin Hooker Logging and Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes. RDO frozen foods in Park Rapids-retiring from there when he was too ill to continue. Louis was active with the National Guard in Park Rapids and was a proud member of the American Legion as well. Louis was married to Bernadine Thompson in 2004. Louis loved his family and his grandkids with all of his heart. Louis found great joy in hunting, fishing and the outdoors in the farm life where he even raised calves after his retirement. He had a John Deere tractor which he used to pull floats for several area parades. He was also active in the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints in Alexandria.

Louis is survived by his son Louis Paul Johnson II of Sebeka; daughter, Ashley Johnson of Missoula, MT; sisters, Ruth (Larry) Jurgensen of Farmington, Alice (Gary) Weil of Columbia, MO and sister Lois Warling; first wife, Cheryl White of Park Rapids; grandchildren, Woodrow Johnson of Sebeka, Micheal White of Park Rapids, Destiny, Iliana, Conan, James “J.J.” and Aphrodite of Montana; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Louis is preceded in death by his second wife, Bernadine Johnson; brother, Donald Johnson; sisters, Molly Tougnid and Edna Johnson; grandchildren, Hunter Johnson, Alex Johnson, and one only named in heaven.

Pallbearers will be Larry Jurgenson, John Meyer, Micheal White, Jeff Martinson, Jeff Martinson Jr, Tammy Chavez, Julie Ellis, Ashley Johnson and Louis Paul Johnson II; Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9 from 1 PM until time of service at 2PM at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home 608 Park Ave. S. Park Rapids. Military Honors will be at the conclusion of the service.


A graveside service will take place the following day at Riverside Cemetery in Campbell, Minnesota.
