Lawrence "Larry" Charles Smith

July 5, 1939 — August 27, 2019

      Lawrence “Larry” Smith (80) of Akeley, MN (formerly Crystal, MN), passed away peacefully at home with his family surrounding him on August 27, 2019.  Larry was born on July 5, 1939 to Lawrence and Mary Ann “Sally”(McCarthy).  He grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and graduated from Edison High School with the class of 1958.  Growing up he enjoyed boxing and speed skating.  Larry attended the University of Minnesota before he was drafted into the U.S. Army.  Larry married his wife Yvonne while serving in Williamsburg, VA.  His son Pat was born just before he was honorably discharged in 1965.  The three made their way back to Minnesota.  Their daughter Renee came along 2 years later.  Together, Larry and Yvonne raised a family in Crystal, MN.  Larry worked for over 35 years in Minneapolis at Northwest Automatic in management.  Most weekends were spent at the lake centered around fishing, family, and friends.  Larry and Yvonne built their retirement home on the same land and enjoyed 13 years of sunsets on the lake.  They spent their winters in Texas with a wonderful group friends playing cards and golfing.  Larry enjoyed reading, history, hunting and fishing.  He was a great dancer and always had a story to share.  He lived his life devoted to his family.        Larry was preceded in death by his parents; Lawrence and Mary Ann “Sally” and his uncle Charlie.        He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Yvonne; son, Pat(Susette); daughter, Renee(Steve); grandsons, Aidan and Landon.  Memorial Visitation 1:00 PM.        Memorial Service 2:00 PM, Saturday September 14, 2019 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home.  608 Park Ave. S. Park Rapids, MN 56470.  Military honors will be provided by the Star of The North Marine Corps League. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society www.donate.lls.org.
