Lawrence Wendell Hoganson

REV. LAWRENCE W. “Larry” HOGANSON August 30, 1934 – October 12, 2019                   Rev. Lawrence W. “Larry” Hoganson, age 85, of Park Rapids, MN peacefully entered the splendor of Heaven on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.                 Larry was born in Lisbon, North Dakota on August 30, 1934 to Wendell and Stella Hoganson.  It was there that he attended public school and grew into manhood.  After graduating from high school, Larry went on to attend Jamestown University in Jamestown, North Dakota where he earned his BS in Education.  He taught public school for three years until hearing God’s call to enter full-time ministry. He attended Garrett Seminary in Evanston, IL graduating with a Masters in Theology.   He was united in marriage to Virginia M. Curtis on June 14, 1959 and they were blessed with three children: David, Michael, and Amy.  During his years of ministry with the United Methodist Church, Larry was assigned to parishes in Rugby, ND, Necho, ND, Fairfax, MN, Crookston, MN, Lake Crystal, MN, Raymond, MN and Hector, MN.  After devoting most of his adulthood to fulltime Christian ministry, Larry retired in 1998 and moved to Fergus Falls, MN where Virginia served as Director of Nurses at the newly commissioned Nursing Home for Veterans.  She preceded Larry in death in August of 2005.  A move to Park Rapids followed a short time later.  Larry was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids where he enjoyed worship and fellowship.  He also enjoyed bicycling throughout the forests and lake country of Northern MN.  He enjoyed the time shared with his dear friend, Donna Lord of Park Rapids who was an important part of his life in his final years.  Larry loved music and was proud to have served for a number of years in the National Guard Army Band as a trombone player in his younger years.                  He will be lovingly remembered by his three children: Dr. David (Deb) Hoganson of Marshall, MN, Michael (Jan) Hoganson of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Amy (Jon) Munson of Tracy, MN; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Gerri of Upstate New York.                  Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids with the Reverend Chip Nielsen officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.  Following the service, a luncheon will be hosted by the church.    To view the video tribute or to leave online condolences please visit www.jonespearson.com.
