Larry Engel

Larry Herbert Engel, 88, of Park Rapids, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 18.

Larry was born October 1, 1937, in Park Rapids. He was the son of the owner of Engel Motors, known locally as the home of Kaiser and Frazer automobiles.

Larry founded Engel Sign Co., developing and maintaining 19 outdoor billboard signs throughout the Park Rapids area as well as signs for local businesses and residents.

Larry shared over 35 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Alice Mae Engel. Together they made their home along the Fishhook River and enjoyed traveling, including time spent at their home in Arizona. They especially enjoyed visiting casinos and spending time together with friends and family.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Lea Ann; and by Alice’s children: Theresa (Jeff), Thomas (Vena), Joseph, Daniel (Renee Grimm) and Jamie; as well as his daughter-in-law, Bethany Lapping, John’s wife. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Mae Engel, and her sons, John and Billy.

Larry will be remembered for his off color humor, entrepreneurial spirit, and love for his work, friends and family.
