KATHERINE JANE “Kathy” RUTHERFORD June 9, 1945 – July 7, 2020 Katherine Jane “Kathy” Rutherford, age 75, a Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully passed into eternal life unexpectedly at her home near Park Rapids on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. Kathy was born on June 9, 1945 to Leslie and Lucille (Michaels) Getchell in Glenwood, MN. It was in Glenwood that she attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1963. After making her home for a number of years in Glenwood, Minneapolis and Rapid City, SD, she moved to Park Rapids in 1989, where she met and fell in love with David Rutherford. On March 6, 1998, Kathy was united in marriage to David in Watertown, South Dakota. Throughout her life, Kathy worked in a variety of occupations from waitress to truck driver. Truck driving was her last work and something she enjoyed immensely serving in this career for over six years until health problems forced her into early retirement in 1995. Since that time, she has been a full-time homemaker. Kathy enjoyed making her home in Northern MN and spending time with her husband, David, her grandchildren and her great-grandson. She also enjoyed keeping busy working with crocheting projects and bowling. Kathy was a member of the Park Rapids Women’s Bowling League for a number of years. She endured the heartache of her husband’s death in February of 2017. Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jerome Iverson of East Grand Forks, MN; her daughter, Leslie (Garry) Kruft of Park Rapids, MN; her sister, Korene McKay of St. Cloud, MN; two grandchildren: Crystal Hendricks and Cody Kruft both of Park Rapids; her great-grandson, James and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband David; her brother, Kenneth Getchell; three sisters; a brother-in-law and a nephew. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday, July 14, 2020 with Pastor Justin Fenger officiating at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. The active casket bearers will be: Cody Kruft, Shane Timmons, Rusty McKay, Todd Sandquist, Phil Kako and Adam. The honorary casket bearers will be Crystal Hendricks and James Kako. Interment will be made next to her husband, David in the Hubbard Cemetery. Following the service, a luncheon will be hosted by the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post # 212 Auxiliary.
