JANICE EVELYN CARNELL February 21, 1949 – September 29, 2020 Janice Evelyn Carnell, age 71, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN with her loving husband, Ron at her side. Janice was born on February 21, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa to Don and Evelyn Tidrick. It was in Des Moines that she attended public schools and grew into womanhood. Janice graduated from the Roosevelt High School with the Class of 1967. She went on to attend Drake University in Des Moines where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Business. Janice spent a long career working in law enforcement as a child welfare officer. After she retired, she moved to Park Rapids, MN where she spent many summers at her family’s cabin on Long Lake. It was in Park Rapids that she met and fell in love with Ronald L. Carnell, Sr. and they both felt they completed each other’s lives. They were united in marriage in a cowboy wedding held at the Grace Community Church in Osage in a ceremony performed by Rev. Paul McKibben on May 20, 2015. Jan loved working with Ron’s horses and their lives together were centered around their appreciation of good riding horses. Jan’s faith was very important to her and she loved attending church at Grace Community where she loved to worship and fellowship with her church family. Jan suffered a serious stroke in the fall of 2017, which left her unable to walk or speak. Over the next year, she worked very hard refocusing her time and energy in relearning how to do both those important life skills with the aid of a walker. In 2019 her health suffered another setback and although Ron worked hard to care for at home, her needs required full-time skilled care and she became a resident of the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Janice is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron of Park Rapids; her son, Scott Blue as well as other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Michael Blue who died in July of 2011. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the Grace Community Church in Osage with the Rev. Paul McKibben officiating. Linda Westergren will be the pianist and Sharon McKibben will be the soloist, singing “Amazing Grace”. The urn bearers will be her friends: Millie Wilson, Coralyn Lempola, and Sharon McKibben. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services. To leave online condolences please visit www.jonespearson.com
