Carol (Scheerer) Valtinson

CAROL VALTINSON September 21, 1934 – January 28, 2020                   Carol (Scheerer) Valtinson, age 85, a lifelong resident of Park Rapids, MN, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids with her husband and daughters at her side.                 Carol was born on September 21, 1934 in Straight River Township, south of Park Rapids, to Francis and Gladys (Wilson) Potter.  She attended the Potter Country School near her parents’ home through the eighth grade before going on to attend the Park Rapids Public High School.  She graduated with the Class of 1952.  On April 2, 1955, Carol was united in marriage to William Scheerer in Park Rapids.  Their marriage was blessed with two daughters: Valerie and Janelle.   Carol and Bill made their home in Park Rapids where they raised their daughters and were involved in the community.  In addition to making a warm and loving home for her husband and daughters, Carol also worked for the Avenson Insurance Agency in Park Rapids for 33 years.  She experienced the heartfelt grief of her husband’s sudden and unexpected death in 1984.  On March 12, 1993, Carol was united in marriage to William S. Valtinson.  They continued to make their home in Park Rapids right up until the time of her death.  Carol was a long time and faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Park Rapids.  She was also a lifetime member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post Auxiliary #212 in Park Rapids.  Carol was an avid golfer and bowler.  Each spring and summer she enjoyed caring for her beautiful flowers.  In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidering, cooking, and baking.  Carol will be long remembered for hosting family gatherings and for her open-door welcoming family and friends.   She loved her family with all her heart.                 Carol is survived by her husband, Bill of Park Rapids, MN; her two daughters:  Val (Charlie) Christopherson of Alexandria, MN and Jan (Brian) Moynihan of Eagan, MN; three step-children: Connie Ingram of Bemidji, MN, Kathy (Jon) Vallee of Salt Lake City, UT and Bill (Darlene) Valtinson II of Corvallis, OR; three dearly loved grandchildren: Katie, Max, and Molly Moynihan all of Eagan, MN; 15 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lois Kopp of Perham, MN and Mary Taylor of Sacramento, CA; as well as many other relatives and friends.                 She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill; her parents; five sisters: Ardelle Nustad, Joyce Hirschel, Jean McDonald, Doris Potter, Teresa Benson, and her brother, Al Potter.                 Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 8, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Rev. James Neubauer and Rev. Joel Newton officiating.   The casket bearers will be: Charlie Christopherson, Brian Moynihan, Jeff, and Terri Madsen, David and Nancy Benson, Luanne Hirschel and Nancy Olmshied.  Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery, next to her first husband, Bill.   Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and will continue at the church Saturday morning beginning one hour prior to the service.     To leave online condolences or to view the video tribute, please visit www.jonespearson.com
