Francis Kaylene “Kay” Cain of Park Rapids, MN passed away on August 21, 2025 at CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, MN.
.Kay was born on July 7, 1946 in Par Rapids, MN to Virgil and Mid (Middleton) Weeks. It was in Osage, MN and on the iron range that Kay spent her early years. She went on to attend the Park Rapids High School from where she graduated in 1964. As a young woman, Kay ventured to Texas where she gained employment at a cookie factory. In April of 1965, Kay joined the United States Navy where she proudly served her country in the Hospital Corps as a physical therapy tech. Upon her honorable discharge, Kay was employed at the Fairfax General Hospital in Arlington VA in the Labor and Delivery Department. On October 13, 1967, Kay was united in marriage to John F. Cain III in Richville, Maryland. This union was blessed with two children: Mickey and John. The young couple made their first home in Arlington, VA until 1968 when they moved to Wadena, MN for a short time before returning toe the Park Rapids area. Kay devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her family. From 1969 until 1974 Kay and John made their home in Baudette where Kay worked in the hospital and for the ambulance service. They returned to Osage where she worked in physical therapy at the nursing home.
In 1984, Kay went to nurses training in Detroit Lakes, MN. After receiving her nursing degree, she went on to Bio-medical Technician training until 1988. They then moved to Aitkin, MN where Kay was employed as a nurse in the Crosby-Ironton nursing Home. In the summer of 1989, they returned to the Park Rapids area where she worked at the nursing home. Kay loved to travel throughout the United States. She also enjoyed reading and doing embroidery. Kay was a former District Commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America.
Kay will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Mickey (Diesel), and John; two granddaughters, Ashley (Justen) and Milena; two sisters, Bette (Dan) Frieler, Mila (Neanie); brother, Lloyd Weeks; as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Virgil and Mila (Middleton) Weeks; brother, Kermit; and one infant son.
