EMELINE FRANCES JAAS (DZIABAS) COOK August 7, 1927 – August 7, 2020 Emeline Frances Jabas (Dziabas) Cook passed away on her 93rd birthday, August 7, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, MN. Emeline was born on August 7, 1927, at home in Pike Creek Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to Stanley and Frances (Suska) Jabas. Emeline and her husband Doug and their son Dougie moved to Akeley from St. Louis Park in the early 1970s. They owned and operated Our Own Hardware in Park Rapids for several years. During that same time, they were involved in founding the North Country Museum of Arts in Park Rapids. Among Emeline’s achievements include a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bemidji State University where she was also an Adjunct Professor. Emeline was proud of her Polish heritage and the folk arts of Poland, especially wycinanki (polish paper cutting) were a passion in her life. She traveled to Poland ten different summers through UNESCO to teach art and English. Emeline enjoyed nature, working in her gardens, watching and feeding her birds. She had a heart for helping people and was involved in her church, Jack Pine Stables, MN Teen Challenge, the local food shelf, Ruby’s Pantry, and wherever else she could be of service to others. Emeline is survived by her sisters: Eleanor Sullivan of Nisswa, and Rita Hornby of Brainerd; brother Florian “Buzz” (Shelley) Jabas of Brainerd; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Emeline is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas; son, Douglas; brother, Raymond Jabas; and sister, Pauline Thrun. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Nevis Church of Christ with visitation beginning one hour prior to the services at the church.
