DON ERNEST PICKETT
August 31, 1945 – May 27, 2020
Don Ernest Pickett, age 74, a lifelong Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully entered Heaven on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, ten minutes after being brought home by ambulance where he wanted to spend the final moments of his life with his loved ones at his side.
Don was born on August 31, 1945 in Shell Lake Township of Becker County to Victor and Grace (Adams) Pickett. He attended country school near his boyhood home. As a young man, he worked outdoors logging, doing yard work for others, and performing other odd jobs. He attended the Detroit Lakes Technical College where he studied automotive mechanics. On March 25, 1967, Don was united in marriage to Phyllis White in Park Rapids, MN. This union was blessed with three children: Randy, Rachel, and Russell. Don loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He also enjoyed hunting for morel mushrooms in the local forests. Don loved to travel. He was passionate about meeting his friends at the Casino where he enjoyed playing all the Casino games and cards. He enjoyed family gatherings with his immediate and extended family members. He had a servant’s heart and always tried to do his best in helping others.
He will be lovingly remembered by his three children: Randy Pickett of Nevis, Rachel (Dano) Crandall, and Russell Pickett all of Park Rapids; nine beloved grandchildren and two precious great-grandchildren; two sisters: Verlyn Carr of Detroit Lakes, MN and Virginia Olund of Frazee, MN; his three brothers: Lavern Pickett of Park Rapids, Victor “Jr.”(Kathy) Pickett of Park Rapids and Larry Pickett of Princeton, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: LeRoy and Bob; a half-brother, Eugene; two sisters-in-law: Sue Pickett and Ann Pickett and his former wife, Phyllis Zurn.
Private family memorial services are set for 2 PM Saturday, June 13th, 2020 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. A public time of visiting with the family will begin at 1 PM on Saturday, when friends may pay their condolences and view the video tribute to Don.
