Menahga

Diana Pearl “Arola” Matson, 71 of Menahga, with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diane Pearl Arola Matson on February 17, 2026. Born in Park Rapids, MN. Diane lived boldly, laughed loudly, and shared herself endlessly.

Diane was caring, kind, incredibly generous, and quick with both a laugh and a loving word. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, whether they were family, lifelong friends, or someone she had just met. Her home was a place of warmth, good food, and open doors. She loved her dogs, family gatherings, bingo nights, flea markets, fishing, and spending time outdoors — especially in Texas, which she enjoyed to the fullest. Her vegetable gardens were plentiful, and her canning was legendary. Pickles, jams, preserves — if it could fit in a jar, Diane likely canned it. She baked bread that disappeared in minutes and made scalloped potatoes and ham that became a family favorite. She proudly sold her goods at the farmers market, always ready with a story and a smile. Diane never met a stranger and had so many friends that it would take an entire newspaper to name them all. She would go to the ends of the earth for someone in need and was willing to try almost anything… except onions. She will be remembered most for her generosity, her humor, and the way she put herself out there to make others happy. Diane’s spirit lives on in every garden planted, every jar sealed, every family gathering, and every story shared with laughter. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar “John” Matson; children, Dan Arola (Holly) and Deirdre Arola; grandchildren, Dylan, Kendra, Jasen, Leah, Devin, and Reilly; great-grandchildren, Colson, Janie, Cleo, and Aurora; sister, Debra Fisher (Dale); brother, Daryl Arola (Carol); many nieces and nephews; special relatives, Dean Hilden (Bee) and Richard Kimball, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow Arola and Harriet Arola; her sister, Darlene Kimball (Ernie Kimball), nephew Troy Kimball and lifelong special friend Marilyn Hjermstad.
