Daniel James Traun

Daniel James Traun, 76 of Lake Itasca passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at his home in Lake Itasca. Daniel was born on March 19, 1945 in Park Rapids, MN to Francis and Elva (Korth) Traun. He attended grade school in Lake Itasca, followed by Bagley High School in Bagley, MN. Daniel joined the U.S. Navy on his 17th birthday and completed his GED in the Navy. After Completing his service in the U.S. Navy, Dan worked numerous jobs, his most memorable was working on the ore boats until he returned to the Lake Itasca area around 1970. On December 9, 1971 Daniel was united in marriage to Gail Hooker in Park Rapids, MN. Their marriage was blessed with their daughter Holly. He worked doing carpentry and logging before working at the University of Minnesota - Forestry and Biological Station, located in Itasca State Park. Dan retired in 2000. After retiring, Dan worked in the underground utility field until the age of 70. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved spending time with his family & friends. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Gail Traun of Lake Itasca; daughter Holly (Rob) Paulson of Lake Itasca; 4 grandchildren: Sloan (Clyde) Milton of Lake Itasca; Mackenzie (Kyle Schlehr) Paulson of Lake Itasca; Carly (Nick) Swanson of Bagley; and Logan Paulson of Lake Itasca; 6 great grandchildren; siblings: Juliet Hansen of Harbor, OR; Michael Traun of Wolverton, MN; as well as many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Francis and Elva Traun of Lake Itasca; brothers: John Traun of Virginia, MN and David Traun of Manistique, MI.
