Curtis Samuelson

May 4, 1941 — May 10, 2020

CURTIS SAMUELSON May 4, 1941 – May 10, 2020 Curtis Samuelson, age 79, a lifelong Sebeka, MN area resident, peacefully entered Heaven’s Glory on Sunday morning, May 10, 2020 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN surrounded by his loved ones. Curtis was born on May 4, 1941 in Red Eye Township of Wadena County, MN to Alex and Lempi (Nevala) Samuelson. He attended country school near his home through the 8th grade and then went on to attend Sebeka High School where he graduated with the Class of 1959. On September 1, 1962, Curtis was united in marriage to Karen May Leaman at the First Baptist Church in Park Rapids. This union was blessed with six children: David, Julie, Kay, Lisa, Darin, and Mindy. The young couple made their first home in Minneapolis where Curtis worked in a foundry. In 1967, they returned to Sebeka where they purchased a farm in Runeberg Township west of Sebeka where all their children were born and raised. Curtis enjoyed the rigors of farming. He raised a fine herd of beef cattle and worked hard in the fields putting up the crops needed to feed his herd. Later they sold the beef cattle and began raising dairy cows. During the years he farmed, Curtis also served in the MN National Guard and drove truck delivering Pepsi Products throughout the area. He sold the cattle in 1995 and began a new career working as a sawyer for the Renneberg Hardwood Company of Menahga until his retirement in 2006. Curtis lived his life humbly and possessed a heart for helping those in need. He was also a bit of a jokester who loved to pull pranks on his family and friends. Curtis was very gifted in working with his hands and could fix just about anything. He was a long time member of the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church near Wolf Lake. Above all, Curtis devoted his life to his precious wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife for these past 57 years, Karen; his six children: David Samuelson of Sebeka, Julie (John) Olston of Parkers Prairie, MN, Kay (Ronald) Paulbicke of Sebeka, Lisa Chandler of Alexandria, Darin (Carrie) Samuelson of Thomasville, NC and Mindy (Adam) Tangeman of Sebeka; 24 dearly loved grandchildren and 21 precious great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mabel, and twin brothers: Frank and Wilbert who died shortly after birth. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Red Eye Cemetery west of Sebeka with the Reverend Dennis Hannu officiating. Visitation will be held at the cemetery beginning at 1 pm. To leave online condolences or to view the video tribute please visit www.cardinipearson.com
