CHERYL MARIE “Sis” CRIST

November 25, 1950 – May 1, 2020

                Cheryl Marie Crist, age 69, a lifelong Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully entered her Heavenly home on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN, following a courageous four-month fight to return to her earthly home since being hospitalized at Mayo following surgery on January 10, 2020.

                Cheryl was born on November 25, 1950 in Park Rapids, MN to Francis and Muriel (Dudley) Booge.  She was baptized on December 25, 1950 and confirmed on March 22, 1964 at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, MN.  Cheryl attended public school in Nevis, MN, and graduated from Nevis High School with the Class of 1968.  She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Charles A. Crist on November 23, 1968 at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. MN.  They were blessed with four children:  Wayde, Berry, Kyle, and Holly.  She devoted her life to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children.  While still in high school, Cheryl used her talents to create wonderful cakes for special celebrations.  In fact, she decorated her own wedding cake.  The popularity of her cakes grew into a part-time business; something she continued doing right up until the time of her surgery.  In addition, Cheryl used her culinary gift to develop her popular, “Sis’s Seasoning”, which is a savory favorite of many.  She was a lifetime and faithful member of the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset.  Her church family and her faith were a very big part of who she was.  Since 1975 Cheryl served as a State Fire Warden.  For the past 30 years, she took pleasure in spring cleaning and fall reorganization at a local resort. She was an avid thrift shopper who reveled in finding a new treasure.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a very special part of her life.  She took pride in helping her husband and children process their freezer meat each year and this became an important family tradition. Cheryl endured the heartache of her husband’s death in 2009 but continued to make her home in Clover township right up until her hospitalization.  Cheryl enjoyed the companionship of her dear friend, John Cummins.  Together they looked forward to numerous fishing adventures, picking blueberries, working in the garden, making wine, and traveling.  She will be long remembered and loved for her care and devotion to her family and friends and for her strong and steadfast faith.

                Cheryl will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Wayde (Kimberly) Crist of Bagley, MN, Berry (Leah) Crist of Park Rapids, MN, Kyle (Jane) Crist of Bagley, MN, and Holly (Taylor) Schlank of Mechanicsburg, PA; 11 dearly loved grandchildren: Jacob (Alicia) Crist, Zachary (Jasmin) Crist, Joshua (Kaitlin) Crist, Anna Crist, Max Crist, Mason Clough, Alison (Keaton) Stuhaug, Sierra (Jacob Riggs) Crist, Emma Crist, Eleanor Schlank, and Joseph Schlank: 6 precious great grandchildren; Wyatt Crist, Cheyenne Crist, Holtyn Crist, Watson Crist, Kora Crist, and Jace Sutherland, her boyfriend, John Cummins of Nevis, MN, one brother, Kelly (Margaret) Booge of Bemidji, MN, and six sisters: Lois (Jerry) Avenson of Bemidji, MN, RJ (Cordell) Kelley of Baltimore, MD, Val (Rick) Quayle of Bagley, MN, Toni (Jim Kramer) Coy of Akeley, MN, Tami (Mark Chelette) Booge Chelette of Navarre, FL and Kristi (Jason) Kath of Nevis, MN as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

                She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Crist, her brother, Roger Booge, and sister in law, Pyon Sun Booge.
