Algene Earl "Dude" Bomstad

    ALGENE EARL “Dude” BOMSTAD August 16, 1922 – June 7, 2019                   Algene Earl “Dude” Bomstad, age 96, a long time Park Rapids, MN resident, was peacefully promoted into eternal glory on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Villa Maria Care Center in Fargo, ND with his family at his side.                 Dude was born on August 16, 1922 in Lake Lillian, MN to Edgar and Hilda (Anderstrom) Bomstad.  He attended country school near his parent’s farm through the eighth grade and then went on to attend the Atwater Public High School where he graduated with the Class of 1941.  As a young man, Dude ventured to San Diego, CA where he gained employment building planes for the war effort.  On December 16, 1942, he felt it his duty to serve in World War II and enlisted in the Army Air Corps.  He served as a member of the 1040th AAF Base Unit in England at the Air Base closest to France. He served bravely and honorably until his discharge on January 19, 1946.  Dude returned to his hometown of Lake Lillian where he met  Adeline Lundblad on a blind date.  The young couple fell in love and were married on March 27, 1948.  They were blessed with three children: Ronald, Margene and Ione.  As newlyweds, they moved to Ipswich, SD where Dude worked as an electrician with his brother, Duane.  Several years later, they moved to Litchfield where he became part owner in the Lindsay Bros. Trucking Company.  He drove truck Coast to Coast hauling primarily for the Anderson Chemical Company.  Dude took great pride in designing and building his family’s home in Litchfield with suggestions from Adeline to make their home compatible to the needs of their growing family.  In 1971, Dude and Adeline left the familiarity and comfort of their longtime home area and moved to Park Rapids, MN where they bought Bill’s Grocery Store which they operated together until retirement. Dude then enjoyed several part-time jobs in Park Rapids.  For many years, he and Adeline enjoyed spending their winters in Inverness, FL and in later years, San Juan, TX.  Dude was a lifetime member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 in Park Rapids, The Guy L. McDermott VFW Post 6206 in Menahga and the Park Rapids Disabled American Veterans.                 Dude will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soulmate for these past 71 years of marriage, Adeline of Park Rapids; his son, Ronald (Carol) Bomstad of Alexandria, MN, Margene (Rick) Parkos of Bemidji and Ione (Patrick) Eischens of Nevis, MN; seven dearly loved grandchildren: Greg Bomstad, Krea Eischens, Stacie Parkos, Andrea Voller, Kellie Marshall, Kole Eischens and Karren Eischens; thirteen precious great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Madisyn, Caden, Lauryn, Marissa, Kenzie, Halle, Kennedy, McKinlee, Kolton, Grayson, Lilly and Landon and one soon to be born great-great-grandson; his brother, Arlie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Eunice and three brothers: Duane, Emerald and Cyrus in infancy as well as two nephews.                 Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids with the Rev. Laurie Nielsen officiating.  Linda Szuszitsky will be the organist.  The casket bearers will be Dude’s seven grandchildren.  Interment will be made in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, MN.  The Star Of The North Marine Corps League and The Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 will provide military honors.  Following the service, a luncheon will be hosted by the Riverside church family for all.  Visitation will be held at the church on Monday beginning two hours prior to the service.     To leave online condolences or to view the tribute video please visit www.jonespearson.com
