Alan Roy Kurth

February 24, 1964 — January 2, 2021

Alan Roy Kurth, Sr., a long-time Park Rapids, MN area resident, unexpectedly entered the glorious splendor of Heaven on Saturday, January 2, 2021, while pursuing his love of ice fishing out on Straight Lake near Osage, MN. Alan was born on February 24, 1964, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Dennis and Zelda (Danielson) Kurth. As a child, he moved with his parents to Park Rapids. He attended Park Rapids Public Schools and graduated with the high school class of 1982. He then attended Detroit Lakes Community College where he studied Culinary Arts and earned his Chef credentials. After college, he went on to manage and cook at various restaurants. He was united in marriage to Zelda Leen on October 7, 1989. They made their first home in Edina, Minnesota where they lived until 1993 when they returned to Park Rapids and Alan started working with his father in the family business, Park Rapids Plumbing and Heating. After leaving the plumbing and heating industry, Alan worked for Team Industries in a 15-year career as a machinist. He then decided to venture out and live his dream of opening his own restaurant. In June of 2018, he and his son, Gerald, opened the Stacked High Deli in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Alan was a man of faith and enjoyed worshipping at the Park Rapids Assembly of God Church, where he served as a deacon and with his wife as Youth Directors. He had a deep faith in God that shined brightly throughout his restaurant and in his community. He had a passion for fishing and spending time with his family. Alan also had a heart for the youth of the community and was always there to stand beside them. Everyone that knew Alan knew that “everyone was his favorite”. He was incredibly loved by many and his passing has left a huge hole in not just his family but also in his church and community. Alan will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soulmate, Zelda of Park Rapids; six children: Joseph Bliss of the Twin Cities, Ashley Kurth of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Alan (Kaitlin) Kurth Jr., of Morganton, North Carolina, Gerald (Devin) Kurth, Sarah Kurth and Dennis Kurth all of Park Rapids; nine precious grandchildren; his parents: Dennis (Mary) Kurth and Zelda (Larry) Novak all of Park Rapids; two sisters: Denise Bramer and Kimberly Kurth both of Montana and a host of dearly loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Assembly of God Church in Park Rapids with Rev. Timothy Wilson officiating. The soloist will be Kaitlin Kurth, who will sing, “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Casket bearers will be Joe Bliss, Alan Kurth, Jr., Jerry Kurth, Sarah Kurth, Tim Schmid, Brenden Mattson, Taylor Mattson, Mike Torkelson, and Mark Hoskins. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, January 08, 2021, at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and again at the church on Saturday beginning one hour prior to the service.
