FUNERAL SERVICES: 4 PM Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Assembly of God Church in Park Rapids, MN VISITATION: One hour prior to the funeral services at the church INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids, MN SURVIVORS: His wife, Joella Sue Shupe of Park Rapids; his two daughters: Apryl Brugman and Cassandra Mills both of Park Rapids and his son, Patrick Shupe of Lillian Alabama; his adopted mother, Pat Dyson of Park Rapids and his natural mother, Donna Miller of Tamarack, MN; six grandchildren; three brothers: Randy (Dee) Shupe of Buffalo, MN, Scott Swanson of Brainerd, MN and Scott (Patty) Trester of Zimmerman, MN; two sisters: Melody (Bob) Johnson of Park Rapids and Twyla (Randy) Hanson of Andover; Richard Duane "Rick" Shupe, age 55, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Seattle, WA, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Monday, October 27, 2008. Rick was born on May 22, 1953 to James Dean and Donna Marie (Richards) Shupe in Richfield, MN. At the age of nine, Rick went to live with Raymond and Patricia Dyson in St. Louis Park, MN. They raised him with much love and nurture and he considered them to be his parents. At the age of 12, he moved with Pat and her family to Princeton, MN where he attended high school. Following high school, Rick enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during the Viet Nam War. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Minnesota where he got a job as a cook in a restaurant in Isanti, MN. On April 28, 1979, Rick was united in marriage to Joella Sue Moss in Seattle, WA. They were blessed with two daughters: Apryl and Cassandra and a son, Patrick. The young family made their home in Seattle, WA until 2000 when they moved to Park Rapids, to be closer to his mother, Pat and sister, Melody. Rick loved to collect and trade baseball cards and coins. He also enjoyed fishing when time allowed and also being used by God in Street Ministry. Rick was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Park Rapids. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joella Sue Shupe of Park Rapids; his two daughters: Apryl Brugman and Cassandra Mills both of Park Rapids and his son, Patrick Shupe of Lillian Alabama; his adopted mother, Pat Dyson of Park Rapids and his natural mother, Donna Miller of Tamarack, MN; six grandchildren; three brothers: Randy (Dee) Shupe of Buffalo, MN, Scott Swanson of Brainerd, MN and Scott (Patty) Trester of Zimmerman, MN; two sisters: Melody (Bob) Johnson of Park Rapids and Twyla (Randy) Hanson of Andover; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his fathers and his sister, Carol Shupe. Funeral services will be held 4 PM Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Assembly of God Church in Park Rapids, MN with the Reverend Art Wood officiating. The casket bearers will be: Scott Trestor, Patrick Shupe, Cassandra Mills, Apryl Brugman, Randy Shupe, Scott Swenson, Robert Johnson and Gregory Herrin. Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral services at the church. A luncheon will be hosted by the Assembly of God Church following the funeral service.
