Betty June Peterson

BETTY JUNE PETERSON June 16, 1934 - March 4, 2015 Betty June Peterson, age 80, of Park Rapids, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 4, 2015 at the St. Joseph's Area Hospital in Park Rapids. Betty was born on June 16, 1934 in Moorhead, MN to James and Tena (Olson) McGough as the last of six children. She grew up in Thorpe Township north of Park Rapids where she also attended country school and grew into womanhood. She was united in marriage to Roy L. Peterson, Sr. on November 21, 1956. This union was blessed with four children: Sandy, Roy Jr., Rose and Deb. In addition to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children, Betty also assisted Roy with the family's successful well drilling business. For many years, Betty answered the phones, kept the books and ordered necessary supplies for the business until their retirements in 1980. Upon retiring, she and Roy purchased a hobby farm where Betty pursued her love of raising horses a passion she shared with her grand daughter, Teri. Betty also loved and enjoyed caring for her beloved dog, Sarge. She also enjoyed attending auctions and finding many treasures to add to her collections. Betty was an avid journalizer and wrote in her journal about a wide variety of things going on in her life everyday until this past February when her failing health kept her from writing. Above all, Betty loved the time she could spend with her children and precious grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Sandy (Bill) Peterson, Roy (Jolinda) Peterson, Jr., Rose (John) Toldo and Deb (Frank) Freund; her six dearly loved grandchildren: Teri (Mike), Sean (Jennifer), Roy III (Missy Mae), Dan, Crystal (Dale) and Angela (Mike); 17 great grandchildren: Tyler, Mason, Tristan, Ian, Hayden, Barry, Brianna, Kyle, Abbigale, Milo, Rowan, Abbie, Frank and Grace.. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Henry Carlson and her husband, Roy in 1995; her five brothers: Palmer, Orris, Duane, Wally and Curt and her beloved companion, Sarge.
