Bartholomew R. "Bart" Glatzmaier

April 3, 1941 — June 29, 2015

Bartholomew R. "Bart" Glatzmaier, Sr., age 74, a long time Park Rapids area resident, passed from this life into eternal life in the early morning hours of Monday, June 29, 2015 in the comfort and beauty of his own home with his loved ones at his side. Bart was born on April 3, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to John and Lillian (Frederick) Glatzmaier. As a boy he grew up on his father's farm north of Park Rapids in Savannah Township of Becker County. He attended the Shady Knoll Country School near his parent's farm. As a young man of 18, he entered the United States Army where he proudly served his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne division as an artillery gunner and a parachute jumper. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Bart returned to the Park Rapids area where on June 20, 1960 he married Nancy Conklin. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Pamela, Bart, Jr., Paula, Bret and Briana. The young couple made their home in St. Paul, MN where Bart gained employment at the American Hoist Company and later at the Twin Cities Arsenal. In 1967, the young family returned to Park Rapids where Bart worked at the Itasca State Park in a job he dearly loved. Later he worked for the State Highway Department in maintenance until moving over to work for Hubbard County as a maintenance supervisor. Having suffered a heart attack, Bart retired from the county in the mid-1990's. He loved the great out doors. He especially enjoyed being out on his land hunting, gardening, feeding and watching the many birds that graced his property. He enjoyed working in the woods building trails and cutting firewood. In fact, Bart had built and maintained miles of trails on his property. He also looked forward to supervising his nephew, Tim in the annual maple syrup harvest. He was a masterful story teller who never met a stranger as everyone was his friend. Above all, Bart devoted his life to his precious wife and soul mate, Nancy who was his teammate for 55 happy years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of Park Rapids; his three daughters: Pamela (Bert) Wilkinson of Park Rapids, Paula Glatzmaier of Park Rapids and Briana (Peter) Griffith of Anchorage, AK; two sons: Bart Jr. and Bret both of Park Rapids; 20 grandchildren and 22 precious great grandchildren as well as 1 great great grandson; three sisters: Gloria (Frank) Michelizzi of Duluth, Ann (Bob) Wagner of Park Rapids and Loralie (Bob) Crep of Park Rapids; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Bart was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Jerome, John and Marvin and his sister, Janice. Memorial services will be held 4 PM Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Reverend Marty Giese officiating. Visitation will begin at 3 PM.Sunday.
