Robert Benjamin Vajgrt

Robert Benjamin Vajgrt, age 72 of Park Rapids, MN formerly of St. James, MN passed away on October 19, 2015 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center in Bemidji. Bob was born January 13, 1943 in State Center, Iowa to Amil and Marian (Hall) Vajgrt. He attended school in State Center where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He was named a High School All American football player in 1960 and graduated with the class of 1961 from the West Marshall High School. He went on to attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he earned a degree in Ag Journalism in 1966. On November 25, 1967 Bob was united in marriage with Elizabeth Jean Erickson in Ames, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with two children: Kimberly Sue and Bradley Hall. Bob's career began as a journalist with the Des Moines Register Newspaper. A few years later, he began working for Lynks Hybrids Seed Corn Company in Marshalltown, Iowa in a career that spanned twenty years. He worked as a sales manager covering the territory of Southeast Iowa to Central Missouri. In 1978, Bob moved to St. James, Minnesota, where he continued to work for Lynks. In the early 1990s, he began working for Banker's Advertising Company. Bob was a big sports fan and loved to watch favorite teams like the LA Dodgers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed spending time outdoors at the cabin fishing, boating, cutting and splitting wood, and taking care of the yard. While in Florida, Bob spent time golfing and playing cards. He was a great cook who enjoyed grilling and spending time in the kitchen. Above all, Bob devoted his life to his wife of forty-eight years, his children and his grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jean of Park Rapids; daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Danger of North Mankato, MN; son, Bradley (Theresa) Vajgrt of Rockford, MN; four precious grandchildren: Sydney and Nicholas Danger and Luke and Emily Vajgrt; one brother, Jerry (Beve) Vajgrt of Worthington; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Amanda Marie Vajgrt. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 1:30 PM Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN.
