Lyle A. Yliniemi

Lyle Antone Yliniemi, age 54, a long time Ponsford, MN area resident peacefully entered eternity Thursday, January 14, 2016 at CHI/St Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, MN. Lyle was born April 22, 1961 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Rudolph and Joan (Gobernatz) Yliniemi of Ponsford. He attended the Osage Elementary school and went on to graduate from Park Rapids High School in 1979. Lyle went to work for local potato growers, planting and harvesting potatoes. Lyle was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to deer hunt and enjoyed the area lakes. Lyle could be seen most days riding his four-wheeler around the neighborhood after work. Lyle was notorious for going on candy runs with his brother and nieces. In later years, he could be found in Osage having a burger and a pop most summer afternoons. Lyle was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park Rapids. Lyle lived on the Ponsford Prairie for 45 years, and then lived at Green Pines Acres in Menahga, MN. Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his brothers: Dale Yliniemi of Osage, MN, Scott (Kristie) Yliniemi of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Todd (Emily) Yliniemi of Ponsford, MN; nephew, Dannon Yliniemi of Detroit Lakes, MN; nieces: Bailey Yliniemi of Detroit Lakes, MN, Samantha Yliniemi of Ponsford, MN and Sally Yliniemi of Ponsford, MN; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mark Yliniemi and sister, Rosemarie Yliniemi. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 23, 2016 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids officiated by Father Tom Friedl. Casket bearers will be Tim “George” Johnson, Dion Pederson, Danny Breitbach, Ron Lechner, Dannon Bailey, Sally Yliniemi, Samantha Yliniemi and Brett Finnicum. The organist will be Mary Schmitz and Robert Sharp will be playing the guitar. Congregational hymns will be “On Eagles Wings” and “Amazing Grace”. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 PM Friday, January 22, 2016 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and beginning one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be made at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN.
