David Sargent

   David E. Sargent, age 75, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly a longtime Brainerd area resident, passed into eternal life on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Walker, MN    David was born on January 10, 1941 in Brainerd, MN to John and Rose (LeDoux) Sargent.  He attended the St. Frances Catholic School in Brainerd, MN through the eighth grade and then went on to attend the Brainerd Public High School from where he graduated with the class of 1959.  As a young man, David learned the trade of tile and carpet installation and worked in this career for many years.  In addition, David enjoyed working in the Hardware business at the Our Own Hardware Stores in Brainerd and Remer, MN.  He began working for the Potlatch Corporation in Grand Rapids, MN in 1975 and worked until 1985 when he became disabled with blindness.  He then moved to Duluth, MN where he learned the skills necessary to cope with his blindness at the Lighthouse which was run by the MN Dept. of the Blind.  In the early 2000’s, David moved with his family to Texas where he resided until 2005, when he moved to Park Rapids where he lived with his brother Pat until later moving to the Court Apts.  David loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed hunting in his early life.  After losing his sight he pursued his love for fishing and spent many hours fishing with his brother Pat both on the water and the ice.  He was a member of the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids.    David will be lovingly remembered by his son, Jeff Sargent; two daughters: Theresa and Tammy; five precious grandchildren; two brothers: Pat of Park Rapids and Edward of Stacy, MN; as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.    Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service.  Father Tom Friedl will be officiating. Interment will be made at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN.
