Dwight Curtis Swanson

June 4, 1960 — March 28, 2016

Dwight Curtis Swanson, 55, a lifetime resident of Milaca, MN entered eternity after a long battle with depression on Monday, March 28, 2016. Dwight was born on June 4, 1960 to Jerry and Nancy (Dahlstrom) Swanson in Milaca, MN.  He attended Milaca Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1978.  He then went on to graduate from the St. Cloud AVTI carpentry program in 1985. He met his first wife there, and they were married in 1985.  To this union, two daughters were born:  Mallory in 1988 and Makayla in 1992.  Dwight worked for Hossnpat Construction for nearly 10 years, before being given an opportunity to work as a carpenter on the Walt Disney motion picture, “Iron Will.” He and his talents were well liked and he was offered a chance to work on subsequent films in MN.  At this time he decided to leave Hossnpat and the many friends he had made, as well as the three hours spent on the road each day, to set off on his own.  This allowed him to spend more time with his girls, and give him the flexibility to work on future films.  He worked on 10 feature films, and a handful of TV commercials, trade show displays and even a music video.  He cherished the many friends and contacts he made in the television/film industry.Dwight served the Milaca and surrounding communities with his DC Swanson Construction company for nearly twenty years. During the last four years he enjoyed a construction partnership with Kevin Krotzer.  Dwight was also given the opportunity to work for the Medallion Cabinetry Company helping to build and install their trade show displays.  He again made many friends there and enjoyed his trips to Chicago and Orlando with them.  Dwight ran into his former classmate and friend Terri (Pearson) in the fall of 2004 and the two soon began dating.  He married his soul mate and best friend in August 2010. Dwight loved spending time with his wife, family and friends, treasure hunting at antique and thrift stores, being part of a small group Bible study and his Alliance church family, playing with his grandchildren and puttering on woodworking projects in his garage. He and Terri made wonderful memories on a trip to Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona this past winter. He is survived by his wife Terri; his step-children: Amanda Dahlin, Jacob (Danika) Dahlin, Elizabeth (Joseph) Welsh, Christopher (Danielle) Hanson; daughters: Mallory (Eric) Barthel and Makayla Swanson; grandchildren: Athena  Hedberg, Logan and Isabelle Dahlin, Leila Hanson, Ella Barthel and Cohen Lietha; parents, Jerry and Nancy Swanson of Merrifield, MN; Mother-in-law, Jean Pearson of Milaca, MN; siblings: Doug, Kris (Mike) Ryan, Daren (Debbie) Swanson, Davin Swanson and his partner, Todd Scott and numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.Dwight is preceded in death by his grandparents: Chester and Mabel Swanson and Hugo and Hortense Dahlstrom; father-in-law, John Deane Pearson and many aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Milaca Alliance Church in Milaca, MN with Pastor Will Koesel officiating.  Visitation will be held 5 to 8 PM Friday, April 1, 2016 at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Interment will be made at the Borgholm Township Cemetery.
