Carrol "Connie" Eugene Loomer

November 26, 1930 — April 3, 2016

Carrol Eugene “Connie” Loomer, age 85, a lifetime Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully passed into eternal life on Sunday, April 3, 2016, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones.    Connie was born on November 26, 1930 to Gurnie and Pearl (Cowan) Loomer on the family farm in Arago Township, north of Park Rapids.  As a boy he attended the Shady Knoll Country School near his home.  He grew up helping his dad with the farm work and working in the woods logging.  As a young man he began his professional logging career working for Harold Walsh and later worked for Chester Walsh harvesting timber throughout the region.  On December 3, 1951, Connie was united in marriage to Donna Jean Overocker.  This union was blessed with five children:  Norma, Lois, Louise, Joyce and Carl.  On April 16, 1952, Connie entered the United States Army where he proudly served his country as a medic during the Korean War.  Upon receiving his honorable discharge on March 19, 1954, Connie returned to his bride and new baby daughter, Norma Jean back in Park Rapids.  At that time, Connie began a 38 year career working for Harris Walsh as a truck driver.  In addition to trucking, Connie and Donna also worked hard raising up a fine herd of Hereford beef cattle and later, Angus Cattle on their farm in Arago.  They also worked side by side in transforming the rugged land into a productive farm raising the feed needed for their livestock.  Connie was incredibly gifted in fixing or building almost anything.  In fact, he and Donna worked together in building their home where Connie in addition to constructing his home, also did the wiring and plumbing.  He was also an excellent mechanic and welder.  Connie retired in 1992 and took on the hobbies of woodworking and saw sharpening.  He enjoyed building grandfather clocks, lawn furniture, rocking chairs and many other projects without using plans or drawings of any kind.  In his spare time, Connie enjoyed reading Louie LaMour westerns.  Above all, Connie devoted his life to his precious wife, Donna and his dearly loved children.    He will be lovingly remembered by his precious wife for these past 64 years, Donna of Park Rapids; two daughters: Norma and Joyce both of Park Rapids; his son, Carl also of Park Rapids; one brother, Roy (Betty) Loomer of Crystal, MN as well as a sister-in-law, Jane (John) Eischens of Park Rapids and several nieces and nephews.    Connie was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Lois in 2013 and Louise in 2015; two sisters: Bernice Dunn and Dorothy Springer and one brother, Harry Schlief; as well as three nephews; three nieces and a brother-in-law.    Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids.  Military honors will be provided by the Star Of The North Marine Corps League.  Interment will be made in the Arago-Clover-Evergreen Cemetery.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  A luncheon will be held following the service at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home.
