HAZEL M. CAMP June 8, 1924 – May 18, 2016             Hazel Mildred Arola Maninga Camp, age 91, a longtime Menahga, MN area  resident entered heaven’s gates on May 18, 2016 at Woodside Manor in Menahga, MN.           Hazel was born in Green Valley Township of Becker County, MN on June 8, 1924 to Gust and Elma (White) Arola.  Hazel grew to womanhood in Green Valley Township and married Benjamin Maninga on April 5, 1941.  This union was blessed with six wonderful children.  Hazel was a farmer’s wife, did seasonal work at Swift and Company and also worked at the Badoura Tree Nursery.  Later, she became a full time employee at the Menahga Nursing Home where she worked in housekeeping until retiring after many years.  Hazel’s husband, Benjamin, passed away in 1976 after 35 years of marriage.  In 1978, she married Glenn Camp and celebrated 31 years of marriage before his death in 2009.  Hazel was an outgoing woman who enjoyed visiting with people.  She will be remembered for many things.  Her children will best remember her for the games she played with them.  Hazel was so young at heart and carefree and enjoyed playing Billy Goat Gruff and Six Steps Around the House with the children.  The grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her Mummi.  They looked forward to eating her special pancakes with sugar, playing Aggravation and Hand and Foot. In her quiet times, she enjoyed the challenge of putting a good puzzle together.  During hunting season the hunters enjoyed going to her house for leipa and mojakka and the good old sauna days. Hazel was a faithful member of the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church near Wolf Lake, MN.          Hazel is survived by her children: Betty (Ray) Vaadeland of Park Rapids, Mary Pauna of Menahga, Howard (Trudy) of Ponsford, MN, Hubert (Pamela) of Beach City, OH and Lorraine (Howard) Johnson of Princeton, MN; 18 Grandchildren; 44 Great-Grandchildren and 10 great-great Grandchildren; two sisters: Teresa Lindula and Ellen Johnson and a host of other relatives and friends, and brothers and sisters in faith. She is also survived by her special friend, Jim Gray of Park Rapids.          She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her son, Delbert; brother, Walter; sisters: Esther, Amelia, Effie, Elma, Rosa, Ailie and Julia; as well as two sons-in-law: Arnold Pauna and Keith Tatro.          Funeral Services were held 11:00 AM Monday May 23, 2016 at the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran  Church in Wolf Lake with Pastor Dennis Hannu and Hazel’s son, Pastor Hubert Maninga officiating.  Dr. Vern and Clair Erickson will be the vocalists singing “Amazing Grace” and “Safe In The Arms Of Jesus”. In addition, Clair will sing “The Lord’s Prayer. The organist will be Sharon Erickson and the pianist, Jana Erickson.  The active casketbearers will be grandchildren: Kaven Tatro, Darryl Pauna, Lance Johnson, Kaylyn Larson, Benjamin Maninga and James Johnson.  The honorary casket bearers will be the Star Of The North Marine Corps League.  Interment will be made in the Maninga Family plot in the Green Valley Cemetery northwest of Menahga.   Following the service, a meal will be hosted by the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church.   Visitation will be held 5 to 8 PM Sunday, May 22, 2016 and will continue at the church beginning one hour prior to the services.  To leave on line condolences or to view the video tribute please visit www.cardinipearson.com .
