John Patrick "Pat" Sargent

     John Patrick “Pat” Sargent, age 78 of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Brainerd, MN was too quickly taken from this life due to a boating accident while he was  fishing and doing what he loved most on Fish Hook Lake just north of Park Rapids on Friday, August 26, 2016.    Pat was born on April 6, 1938 in Brainerd, MN to John B. and Rose (LeDoux) Sargent.  It was in Brainerd that he attended schools and grew into manhood.  After high school, Pat went on to attend the Brainerd Community College.  He was united in marriage to Ann Donovan on October 10, 1959 in Cascade, Iowa.  This union was blessed with five children: Sue, Mike, Lauri, Karen and Julie.  Pat began working with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in a career that spanned 44 years until his retirement.  He was a lifetime outdoorsman who loved to hunt or fish whenever time allowed.  He also loved to snowmobile and one winter logged over 6500 miles on his snowmobile with family and friends.  Over the years Pat especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren.  One summer he and his son Mike, aggressively fished for muskie and Pat reeled in over 40 of these elusive trophies.  It was not unusual for Pat and his son to leave their home by 4 AM so they could go duck hunting and both get back in time for work and school. He was a long time member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.  He was very active in his church having served as a member of the Parish Council, a lector, an usher and also served on the St. Peter’s Catholic School board.  He was also happy to work in the church kitchen whenever he was needed.  Pat also enjoyed spending time with his special friend, Betty Jensen.  Above all, Pat devoted his life to his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren who he loved with all his heart.     Pat will be lovingly remembered by Ann Sargent of Goodyear, AZ; his five children: Sue (John) Zinniel and Mike (Renee) Sargent all of Park Rapids, Lauri (Dean) Schroeder of Buckeye, AZ, Karen Sargent of Callaway, MN and Julie (Mike) Helm of Buckeye, AZ; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one brother, George (Ed) Sargent of Stacey, MN as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.    He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Richard and David.    Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Friday, September 2, 2016 at the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Tom Friedl officiating. Following the service a luncheon will be hosted by the church for all to attend.  Graveside services will be held at the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery of Park Rapids.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations will be accepted and given directly to Hubbard County Search and Rescue in Pat’s name.
