Elmer Irvin Bohjanen

ELMER BOHJANEN July 8, 1927 – September 2, 2016         Elmer Bohjanen, last surviving member of the Oscar and Alli family passed away September 2, 2016.       Born in Gackle, ND in 1927, Elmer spent most of his childhood in Deer River, MN and adult years in Menahga, MN.       He was husband to Mary Jane (Kyllonen) for 67 years, dad to Janis, Edith, Susan and Elaine. Elmer owned and operated Elmer’s Auto Service in Menahga for 34 years.       He was a volunteer with the fire department, first responders, Menahga Museum and Minnesota Finnish American Historical Society.       Elmer is survived by Mary Jane, Janis and Bob Hillstrom, Edith and Fred Kyllonen, Susan Bohjanen; grandchildren: Kris and Jim Norman, Brant and Missy Hillstrom, MaryKay Moe, Laurel Hillstrom, Clint and Mindy Kyllonen, and Jane and Brian Trusinsky. He was preceded in death by daughter Elaine (1966), parents, siblings: Saunder, Bill, Signe, Oswald and Waino.       Visitation will be at the Cardini Pearson Funeral Home, Menahga, MN, Friday, September 9 from 5-8 PM and resuming one hour prior to the service at the church.  Funeral service will be at Pickerel Lake Apostolic Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 10 at 11:00 AM.
