Arthur “Art” Brissett, 77, of Park Rapids, died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Art was born on August 13, 1939 in Park Rapids to George and Vera (Beck) Brissett. He was raised in the Park Rapids area, assisting his parents in their various business ventures. In 1957, he joined the Army Air Force, where he would be stationed for a period overseas in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from the services, he returned to Park Rapids to work as a machinist and a millwright. Following his dreams, in 1973 Art went to work at the Rochester Harley Davidson shop which allowed him to indulge in his passion for motorcycles and racing. In 1983, Art purchased a farm in the Park Rapids area and by 1985 had moved back permanently to be closer to his mother. Never one to stay still, he at one point simultaneously owned an all repair service, Art’s Place bar and Northway Tree and Landscaping, in addition to his horse and cattle farm. He also developed an interest in rental properties, at one point owning 21 separate units before finally retiring to his farm to live out the remainder of his days with his family that he loved dearly. He is survived by his six childen: Brian (Melissa) Brissett of Park Rapids, Dori Mueske of Park Rapids, Etta (Allen) Lowrey of Baldwin, WI, Faron “Murphy” Machovsky of California; Gina (Shane) Rasset of Becker, MN, and Jenny Lynn Alden of Park Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Delores Parks of Park Rapids; brother Orn (Ardis) Brissett of Hewitt, MN; half-brothers Martin Broten and Alfred (Patsy) Broten, both of Park Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relations, and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents and a great-grandson Ethan. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 1 PM at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with a gathering time beginning one hour prior to the start of the service. Interment will be at a later date.
