Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson

    Elizabeth Fay “Betty” Johnson, age 92 of Park Rapids, MN, peacefully passed into eternal life on Monday evening, December 12, 2016 at the Park View Care Center in Buffalo, MN.    Betty was born on July 19, 1924 in Brainerd, MN to Fay Leroy and Sylvia (Wright) Gilbert.  As a small child she moved with her family to Park Rapids, MN where she attended public school and grew into womanhood.  She graduated from the Park Rapids High School with the class of 1943.  Betty was united in marriage to Norvel “Nub” Johnson on June 4, 1943.  This union was blessed with five children: Delmar, Dale, Janice, David and Nancy.  Betty devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children.  She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade cooking.  Each summer her days were busy with canning fruit, vegetables and pickles.  In addition to caring for her family, Betty also kept the books and did the payroll for the family business, The Johnson Construction Company.  Betty loved life and kept herself active by playing bridge twice per week, golfing, swimming, bowling and embroidering or cross-stitching gifts for her family and friends.  She was a member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 Auxiliary and the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary.  She attended the Park Rapids United Methodist Church.                    Betty will be lovingly remembered by her five children:  Delmar (Jan) Johnson of Fairbanks, AK, Dale Johnson of Willmar, Janice (Rick) Hanson of Monticello, David (Roxanne) Johnson of Walker and Nancy (Keith) Hannasch of Becker; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; five precious great great grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Plummer of Duluth, MN;  two brothers: Larry Gilbert of Hermantown, MN and Jim (Cindy) Gilbert of Duluth;  one sister-in-law, Marilyn Weeks of Great Falls, MT; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norvel “Nub” in 1988 and a sister, Viola “Vi”.    Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Rev. Loren Ferch officiating.  Her casketbearers will be her children.  Interment will be held in the spring next to her husband in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services on Sunday.
