Martin R. Broten July 22, 1952 – January 9, 2017 Martin Ray Broten, 64, of Park Rapids, MN died at his residence on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at the age of 64. Martin was born on July 22, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, MN to Melvin and Vera Broten. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran church in Park Rapids, MN. He attended Park Rapids Schools and graduated with the class of 1971. After graduating high school he attended the Detroit Lakes, MN technical school for welding and went to work for White Motors in Minneapolis, MN welding hydraulic tanks. He moved to Chester, MN to do mechanical work. Martin decided to go back to the Detroit Lakes technical school to become a diesel mechanic. He went to work for the MetroTransit bus company in the Twin Cities, where he bought a home in Brooklyn Park while working at MTC for 18 years. He then did various jobs and decided to move back to Park Rapids where he retired and lived for the rest of his life. He enjoyed playing games on his computer, fishing occasionally, & enjoyed visiting, helping out, and being around his family. He will be remembered as the family jokester. He is survived by his twin brother Alfred (Patsy) Broten of Park Rapids, half-brother Orn (Ardis) Brissett of Hewitt, MN, special friend Judy Miller, & numerous nephews nieces, and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents, his half-brother Arthur Brissett and his half-sister Deloris Parks.
