Michael Wayne Hammond

MICHAEL WAYNE HAMMOND                 Michael Wayne Hammond, age 54 of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Shelbyville, IN and Carrollton, KY. , passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the CHI St. Joseph’s Health Center in Park Rapids with his son Patrick and dear friend, Charolotte Wilson at his side.                 Michael grew up in Shelbyville, IN and Carrolton, KY where he attended public schools and grew into manhood.  He graduated from the Carroll County High School with the Class of 1980.  He went on to attend RETS Electronic Institute in Louisville, KY.  On March 23, 1987, Michael was united in  marriage to Sharon Young in Carrollton, KY.  They were blessed with three sons: Timothy, Dustin and Christopher.  Michael gained employment with the Walmart Corporation for a number of years.  In 2003, Michael moved to Faribault with his family where they made their home for several years.  About this time Michael’s life was blessed with a fourth son, Patrick.  Michael was an avid reader and led a book club on facebook where he had many friends.  He was also an avid stamp collector and was active on facebook trading stamps internationally.  He especially enjoyed playing video games on X-Box, Playstation and also enjoyed collecting old Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Saga games.  Michael loved geocaching something he did often with Patrick and Charlotte. He was a special friend and caregiver to Charlotte Wilson who has been battling cancer for the past four years.  He was an extremely devoted father to his youngest son, Patrick, age 14 who he cared for.  He also loved being father to his other sons and being a grandfather.                  He will be survived by his four sons: Timothy Hammond of Ft. Pierce, FL, Dustin Hammond and Christopher Hammond both of Vero Beach FL, and Patrick Hammond of Park Rapids, MN; two grandchildren: Dominic and Nova Hammond; his mother, Patricia Pyles of Carrollton, KY; three sisters: Marty (Donnie) Mills of Bedford, KY, Mandi Pyles of Louisville, KY and Cindy Mershon of Shelbyville, IN;as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.                 Michael was preceded in death by his father.                 At this time no services are being planned.
