Malissa Lorraine Rogers

August 2, 1992 — August 13, 2017

Malissa Lorraine Rogers, age 25, a long time Park Rapids area resident, tragically and suddenly was taken from this life and ushered into eternity following an accident on Sunday, August 13, 2017.    Malissa was born on August 2, 1992 in Montesano, WA to Leon and Mitzi (Bocardo) Rogers. She spent the first 3 years of her life in Montesano before moving to Park Rapids with her parents, sister, Alycia and brother, Christopher in December of 1995. Her first memories of Minnesota were arriving during a winter storm with high winds, deep snow and with air temperatures at 50 degrees below zero. As a child she attended Grace Christian Academy and the Frank White Elementary School. She was homeschooled by her parents for a number of years until resuming her education at the Park Rapids Century Middle School in the eighth grade and going on to attend Park Rapids High School. As a young woman she worked at McDonalds in Park Rapids. In 2012, she ventured to Alexandria where she again went to work for McDonalds and made many new friends. She returned to Park Rapids in 2014 and currently was employed at Aunt Belle’s Confectionary. Malissa was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Brianna Lorraine Rogers in 2015 who was her pride and joy and brought her a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose. She loved being a mother and cherished every moment, every memory and every step of Brianna’s development. She nurtured her daughter with healthy doses of unconditional love, tenderness and warmth. Malissa was an active young woman who loved playing tennis, fishing, camping and four-wheeling. She loved taking her daughter for long drives through the countryside. She loved music and was a big fan of Nick Jonas of the Jonas brothers. She also enjoyed the acting of Johnny Depp and loved watching him in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Mostly, Malissa devoted her life to her daughter and loved her family and close friends with all her heart.    She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Brianna; her mom, Mitzi (Mark) Tjoens of Buckeye, AZ and her father, Leon Rogers of Park Rapids; her two sisters: Alycia (Andrew) DeLong of Garfield, MN and LeeAnn of Park Rapids; her brother, Christopher of St. Peter, MN; her nephew, Chase DeLong of Garfield, MN; her maternal grandfather, Nacho Bocardo of Mesa, AZ and her great grandfather, Genaro Bocardo who at age 103 still lives well in Miami, AZ; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.    Malissa was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Leo and Carrie Rogers; her maternal great grandmother, Mitzi Bocardo; her aunt Carrie and four uncles: Mark Bocardo, Walt Rogers, Gary Rogers and Jerry Miklavcich.    Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Grace Community Church in Osage with the Rev. Paul McKibben and Lance Engst officiating. Linda Szuszitzky will be the pianist and Katie Engst will be the soloist. The casket bearers will be: Terissa and Pat Focken, Kelly Simonson, Levi Meyers, Andrew DeLong and Mark Tjoens. Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Following the service a luncheon will be hosted by the Grace Community Church.
