MARLENE JANET BECK
August 8, 1934 – February 13, 2010

Marlene Janet Beck, age 75, of Frazee, MN, formerly of Wolf Lake, MN, was peacefully promoted into Glory on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Marlene was born on August 8, 1934 near Wolf Lake, MN to Aileen Aho. It was in the Wolf Lake Area that she attended country school through the eighth grade and then went on to attend high school in Frazee, Minnesota, graduating with the Class of 1952. On August 8, 1954, Marlene was united in marriage to Donald Phillip Beck at the Bethany Lutheran Church near Wolf Lake. This marriage was blessed with one son, Darrell. Marlene was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious home made Finnish dishes of mojakka and laxlada. She enjoyed country life and had a deep love for animals; especially for her dogs and cats. She also enjoyed helping her son, Darrell with lambing out his sheep each winter and also working with his beef cattle herd. She attended the Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church near Wolf Lake for a number of years. She experienced the heart ache of being preceded in death by her husband in 2001. Due to her own failing health she had left the farm and become a resident of the Frazee Care Center Assisted Living in 2004. Above all, Marlene devoted her life to her family who she loved with all her heart.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Darrell and his wife, Terry (Tietz) Beck of Bradenton, Florida; her two grandsons: Jeremy Beck and Nic (Nikki) Beck all of Fergus Falls, MN; her two beloved great grandchildren: Kelsi and Kile; as well as other relatives and friends.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee with Reverend William Aufdenkamp officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga and again on Thursday at the church beginning one hour prior to the services. The casket bearers will be: Gene Aho, John Aho, Tony Beck, Jim Carstens, Maylon Karppinen and Milton Karppinen. Interment will be made in the spring at the Wolf Lake Cemetery. I was sorry to hear of Marlene's death. I attended High school and graduated with Marlene from Frazee High School in 1953. I used to visit with her at the Frazee Nursing Home when my mother Mary Penttinen was there. My sympathies to her son and family.

Sincerely, Edith Boos

Marlene Beck was my Godmother, she was a wonderful, loving woman. She loved life, we used to have so much fun together. We used to go shopping and out to eat or just spend time at the Karppinen Farm or her home. She loved animals and had a great sense of humor. Even in her last years at the nursing home, I could always get a smile ~ after a hug.
We won't be able to attend the funeral, but know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
I have made a donation to hospice in her memory.

I am sending our sympathies to Darrell Beck and family in the death of his mother, Marlene. I am writing in behalf of my mother, Sylvia Johnson, who is Marlene's aunt. Sylvia last visited Marlene about 2 years ago with my sister Lorraine who lives near Park Rapids so she is sad to learn now that she has died. Aunt Sylvia resides at Viewcrest Nursing Center, 3111 Church Place, Duluth, Mn. 55811 now and is unable to travel. Our hearts are there with you and hopefully, we can meet one day. God bless you all in this sad time. Sincerely, Cousin Delores Levander
