Lavilla Sycks, age 87 of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Park Rapids.
Lavilla was born on August 27, 1924 to John and Louise (Benke) Cordes in Henning, MN. She grew up in Henning and attended the public school there. After graduation, Lavilla moved to California where her 2 brothers were living. While in California, she worked for Southern Pacific Bell Telephone Company. In September of 1945, Lavilla married Lt. George Sycks in Norfolk, Virginia. After World War II, they moved back to Minnesota. Lavilla’s life’s work evolved around her family: Stefanie, Tom and Melanie. She focused on their spiritual growth and well being and instilled an intense love for family that has endured throughout the years.
Lavilla will be lovingly remembered by her children: Tom (Sue), Stefanie (Chuck) and Melanie (Russ); grandsons: Michael, Alan, Dalton, Preston and Brock; great-grandsons: Noah and Keaton; great-granddaughters: Lauren and Lexi; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, George and 4 brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN with Reverend John Ramsbacher officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Our families connected in many ways. Mom ( Norma )graduated with Lavilla and were good friends. George was one of my teachers in High School and your parents were good friends of Mom and Dad. I always liked visiting with both when we were at a gathering together and will always remember Lavilla's laugh and smile. I have many fond memories of them and want you to know they touched many lives.
