FUNERAL SERVICES:   2:30 P.M. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island, MN

VISITATION:   One hour prior to service on Thursday at  the church

INTERMENT:   St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bird Island, Minnesota

SURVIVORS:  Her sisters-in-law: Phyllis Hveem, Hazel Martin, Mildred Martin, Margaret Martin and Eleanor Martin; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

 

  VIRGINIA M. MARTIN
March 16, 1933 ~ April 26, 2012

 

Virginia Mary (Elfering) Martin, age 79, of Park Rapids, MN formerly of Bird Island, MN passed away on April 26, 2012 at the Assumption Nursing Home in Cold Springs, MN.
Virginia was born to Clarence Henry and Emma (Brtek) Elfering on March 16, 1933 in Olivia MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Aloysius in Olivia, MN. Virginia attended grade school through mid 8th grade at Aloysianum School in Olivia. She completed 8th grade and graduated as Salutatorian from St. Mary’s School with the Class of 1951 in Bird Island, MN. On February 14, 1955, she was united in marriage of Virgil Ordell Martin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island. To this union they were blessed with two sons: Robert Thomas and Douglas Lee. The family engaged in farming from 1955 to 1965 in Clarkfield, MN. In 1967, they moved to Starbuck, MN and then on to the Benson-Murdock area. The family returned again to Bird Island, where Ordell was employed at Trojan Pfizer Seed Corn Plant in Olivia. In 1989, some years into retirement, they made the move to Park Rapids, MN.
Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law: Phyllis Hveem, Hazel Martin, Mildred Martin, Margaret Martin and Eleanor Martin; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ordell in November of 2006 and her sons: Robert Thomas in July of 1975 and Douglas Lee in February of 1996.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Father George Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bird Island, MN.

Virginia accompany me many times to Holy Hour .Her ways will be missed. I will keep her in my prayers. Lord hear our prayers. God Bless her.

Virginia was my special aunt, we will cherish many good memories; we stood by her in all hardships and losses. We will miss her greatly, she is now at peace and with her husband and sons. May you rest in Peace Virginia. Much Love
