KENNETH LEON SHEPERSKY
January 24, 1950 ~ June 3, 2012
Kenneth Leon Shepersky, age 62, a lifelong Menahga area resident, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 3, 2012 while enjoying fishing on Toad Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN.
Ken was born on January 24, 1950 in Park Rapids to Leon “Swede” and Valada “Sis” (Loesch) Shepersky. As a child, his parents moved to the Iron Range of northern Minnesota where he began his formal public education. As a teenager, his family returned to the Menahga area where Ken completed high school, graduating with the Class of 1968. Following his graduation, Ken enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country in Vietnam until he was honorably discharged and returned home in 1970. Ken gained employment working on the Iron Range. On September 11, 1971, Ken was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Sandra Marie Burkman at the Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga. Their union was blessed with 2 children: Todd and Tracy. Ken went on to attend Bemidji State University where he majored in Mathematics. The Shepersky family made their home in the Menahga area where he started the Shepersky Brothers Construction Company which he was a part of for many years. In 1987, Ken purchased the Shepersky Meat Company where he served many area families with custom slaughtering and meat cutting right up until his sudden death. Ken loved the outdoors; he especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and gardening. Ken was an active member of the Menahga Gateway Lions Club and the Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post in Menahga. Above all, Ken devoted his life to his precious wife, children and grandchildren who he loved with all his heart.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife for the past 41 years, Sandra of Menahga; his daughter, Tracy (Brian “BJ”) Hotakainen of Park Rapids; his son, Todd (Valerie) Shepersky of Albany, NY; his nephew who he loved like a son, Jason (Kelly) Shepersky of Menahga; 7 grandchildren: Haley, Maia, Mason, Julian, Mari, Hope and Kale; 2 sisters and 7 brothers; his special uncle, Dutch Shepersky of Meadowlands; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents: Swede who died in 2011 and Sis who died in 1986.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the First English Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN with Reverend Steven Bruer officiating. The Honorary Urnbearers will be Ken's Grandchildren, the Menahga Gateway Lions Club and the Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post. The Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post #6206 of Menahga will provide the Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the First English Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Shepersky family. May God lift you up and give you strength during this difficult time. My dad Jerry, always had good things to say about Kenny. (He was one hard worker and one hell of a great butcher)

I knew Kenny through Jason & Kelly Shepersky. He was a great guy. The kind of man you would want to have as a friend. I can only hope that more people would want to emulate that kindness and caring.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shepersky family during this very difficult time. Whenever, we were in Menahga Kenny always had fishing and hunting stories to tell about times he spent with the grand-kids and future trips that he was planning with them. He always made sure to ask about our kids. We will miss him!

We were very saddened to hear of Kenny's passing. Our prayers are with you as you go through this difficult time, Sandy and family. Kenny was always so positive, always had a smile on his face, and truly loved life. It is nice to hear that he was doing something he enjoyed when this occurred. Robert remembers the fun he had playing cards with Kenny years ago.
We know how much you will miss Kenny, but you can take comfort and strength from the wonderful family you and he had together. I know their love will get you through this difficult time.

Our sympathy to you Sandy, Tracy and all of the rest of Ken's family members. It is such a shock to hear that he passed away. We recently had a wonderful conversation with him. He always had the best to say and a joyful outlook on life. We will miss his great smile and genuine greeting. Kenny had a way of kidding around with us a well as others. He was always good for a laugh. He has affected so many lives in his 62 years. We too will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very sad time.

Kenny was a wonderful cousin! I remember him taking us fishing when my sister and I were about 10-11 and our family visited the farm. I wrote to Kenny when he was in Viet Nam and we lost our cousin, Vincent during that time. Such a sad time, but such a hero. I wish I had been in contact sooner, but I'm sure cousin Kenny is enjoying his heavenly home with lots of family. To his immediate family, my prayers and thoughts! God bless you! Love, Lorna
