DANIEL WARREN HOFF
June 10, 1935 ~ February 19, 2009
Daniel Warren Hoff, age 73, of Menahga, MN, peacefully entered Heaven’s gate on Thursday, February 19, 2009, while at home with his loved ones at his side, following a valiant battle against leukemia.
Daniel was born on June 10, 1935 in Perley, MN to Paul and Ostine (Ystebo) Hoff. He attended the Perley Elementary School and then went on to attend the Borup Public High School where as quarterback he led his football team to an undefeated season and graduated as Valdectorian of the Class of 1953. Dan then attended Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN. His love for the land and cattle called him out of the class room where he became a student of agriculture in the practical application of farming with his dad and brothers. In 1959, Dan purchased a farm in Green Valley Township of Becker County south of Park Rapids, MN. On September 5, 1959, Dan was united in marriage to Margie Lorraine Cummins at the lst English Lutheran Church in Dorset. This union was blessed with five children: Debra, Randell, Cynthia, Sheila and Ryan. Dan devoted himself to his family and farming. He worked hard in transforming the rugged land into a productive farm. In addition to caring for his herd of dairy cattle, Dan also maintained a hog farrowing operation. He enjoyed the hard, honest work of farming and the satisfaction that his labors brought him. Dan also had other interests. He was a long time member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Park Rapids and had served as the church treasurer for many years. Most recently, Dan has been a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Dan also assisted Margie as a leader of the Pinewood Pioneers 4-H Club for many years. He loved the out of doors; especially when he could spend his spare time planting beautiful hostas and day lilies. He also looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden each spring which he would nurture into abundance to share with his family and friends. He also loved the challenge of hunting the elusive white tail or fishing. Above all, Dan devoted his life to his precious wife, his children and his grandchildren who he loved with all his heart.
Dan will be lovingly remembered by his wife for the past 50 years, Margie; his five children: Debra (Terry) Arola of Osage, MN, Randell (Paula) Hoff of El Cajon, CA, Cynthia (Don) Kuismi of Evansville, MN, Sheila (Andy) Fyock of Brainerd, MN and Ryan (Nancy) Hoff of Salt Lake City, Utah; 11 much loved grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Linda) Hoff of Perley, MN; three sisters: Roslyn (Bob) Moore of Whitewright, Texas, Janice Kjesbo of West Fargo, MN and Edith (Charles) Johnson of Clearwater, MN; a sister-in-law, Donna Hoff of Borup, MN as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Norman, Klyde and an infant brother, Paul Merle.
