DELORES MARIE WALKAMA
January 3, 1933 ~ January 26, 2011

Delores Marie Walkama, age 78 of Menahga, MN peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 with her family by her side at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN.
Delores was born on January 3, 1933, the 18th child that blessed the home of Aato and Geela (Luoma) Hotakainen of Blowers Township in Ottertail County near Sebeka, MN. Delores was raised in rural Sebeka and attended Country District School through the eighth grade and then went on to attend Sebeka High School. Delores was united in marriage to Walfrid Walkama on September 1, 1951 in Park Rapids, MN. This union was blessed with one son, Gale. They made their home north of Menahga. She was a homemaker and loved to cook; her specialties were: finnish flat bread, blueberry pie, wild rice hotdish and she especially enjoyed canning tomato juice. She also enjoyed working in her garden and feeding and watching the birds. Delores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dorothy (Patson) Walkama of Menahga, MN; two grandsons: Jeremy (Emily) Walkama of Menahga, MN and Christian (Jill) Walkama of Waite Park, MN; two great grandsons: Jeremy, Jr and Justin Walkama; two great granddaughters: Keeley Walkama and Mikaela Nelson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Delores is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walfrid; son, Gale and 17 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Assembly of God Church in Menahga, MN with Pastor Bob Smith officiating. Mary Hanninen will be the pianist and will also be singing “In the Garden”. Bernice Kangas will be singing “Come to Jesus” and a special musical recorded tribute will be, “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me. Casketbearers will be her grandsons, great grandsons and nephews: Jeremy Walkama, Jr., Jeremy Walkama, Christian Walkama, Justin Walkama, Stewart Limanen and Bob Kimball. Honorary casketbearers will be her great granddaughters: Mikaela Nelson and Keeley Walkama as well as all other family members. Interment will be held at the Menahga City Cemetery in Menahga, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. A luncheon will be served at the Assembly of God Church immediately following the service.
