CHARLOTTE PEARL STENNES
April 25, 1917 ~ March 14, 2009
Pearl Stennes, age 91, a long-time Park Rapids, MN, resident passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Park Rapids.
Pearl, our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was born to George and Elsie (Mienert) Fish in Rosebud, MT, on April 25, 1917. She grew up in a family of five brothers and two sisters. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Fosston, MN, where she received her schooling. As a young woman she was very active in her 4-H club and enjoyed attending dances with her brothers and sisters. After graduation she worked at a pharmacy in Fosston, then moved to Minneapolis where she worked as a nanny.
Pearl married John Stennes on February 4, 1945, in Erskine, MN. After the war, they lived in Detroit Lakes until they moved to Park Rapids where they bought the Red Owl grocery store in 1946. John and Pearl were blessed with a son, John Karl, in 1947, and another son, Richard Allen, in 1950. They sold the Red Owl store and opened J & B Auto Parts in the mid-60’s, which they operated until they retired in 1982.
Throughout her life, Pearl was devoted to her church. She was a Sunday School and summer Bible school teacher at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids and a lifetime Circle member. She enjoyed fishing, attending her children’s school activities, baking and doing needlepoint. During her leisure years, Pearl traveled throughout the United States, played cards and dice with her friends, and she also enjoyed bird watching and flower gardening. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was called to rest with the Lord on March 14, 2009.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: John Karl and wife, Marianne “Dolly” Stennes of Grand Forks, ND; and Richard of Park Rapids; three granddaughters: Maggie Stennes of Park Rapids; Molly (Stennes) Luther of Park Rapids; and Emily Stennes of Seattle, WA; one sister, Doris “Sis” (Jack) Rinkenberger of Fosston, MN; one brother, Buddy Fish of Babbitt, MN; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
