VISITATION: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior the services at the church on Saturday.
INTERMENT: Green Valley Cemetery, Menahga, MN
SURVIVORS: Her son, Henry; her two daughters: Janice (Allen) Marjamaa and Marian (Richard) Carlson; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; her two sisters: Hilda Lehtimaki and Ada Hallikainen.

Ida Mary Maki, age 91 of Menahga, MN peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN.
Ida was born to Peter and Selma (Maatta) Hallikainen on November 30, 1919 in Green Valley Township of Becker County, MN where she was raised and attended the District 92 Country School near her home. As a young woman, Ida ventured to Chicago, IL with two of her sisters: Hilda & Lillian to find work. Ida worked at the Douglas Aircraft factory in Schaumburg, IL until the war was over. Ida was united in marriage to Willard Maki on December 15, 1945 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. This union was blessed with 5 children: Henry, Robert, John, Janice and Marian. The young family purchased a farm in Green Valley Township, northwest of Menahga, where they raised their family and engaged in dairy farming. In addition to helping on the farm, Ida was employed at the Swift Turkey Processing Plant in Detroit Lakes, MN. She also worked as a Green Valley Township assessor for 22 years. Ida faithfully took her children to the Straight River Bible Chapel for Sunday school and enjoyed watching Billy Graham on T.V. and reading his many evangelical publications. She will be remembered for her delicious cinnamon rolls and donuts. Each spring she would plant a huge garden to raise produce to feed her growing family. She loved to knit gloves and socks for her family and friends. Above all, Ida will be remembered for her devotion to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Henry; her two daughters: Janice (Allen) Marjamaa and Marian (Richard) Carlson; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; her two sisters: Hilda Lehtimaki and Ada Hallikainen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard; her sons: Robert and John; sisters, Lillian and Alma and brothers, Evert and Henry.
Funeral services were held 11 AM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Menahga Assembly of God Church with Pastor Bob Smith officiating. The vocalists will be Russ Carter, who accompanied by his wife, Maxine will play, “There Is Power In The Blood”. Paulette Smith will sing “How Great Thou Art” and “In The Garden” as she plays the keyboard and the congregational hymn will be “Amazing Grace”. The casket bearers will be her grandchildren: Wayne Etter, Jr., Amy Carlson, Amber Abraham, Matt Carlson, Ryan Marjamaa, Naomi Maki, Dena Hunter, Jana Marjamaa and Joshua Maki. Interment will be made in the Green Valley Cemetery northwest of Menahga. Following the services a luncheon will be hosted by the Menahga Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN.
