 DAVID C. NOHRENBERG
February 25, 1943 ~ June 3, 2011

David C. Nohrenberg, age 68 of Staples, MN formerly of Menahga, MN passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples, MN.
David was born in Huntersville Township, Wadena, Co., Minnesota on February 25, 1943 to Clarence and Anna (Katainen) Nohrenberg. He attended the Sunnyside 59 East Country School near his home. David then attended Menahga High School. During his junior year he moved with his family to Calumet, MN. He graduated from nearby Coleraine High School with the class of 1961. The very next day he left home with only a five dollar bill in his suitcase and his guitar. In those early days, David often played in restaurants to earn his meals. His journeys took him first to Minneapolis where he found a job selling magazines. He then ventured to Washington State where he met Diana Anderson. David and Diana were united in marriage and made their first home in the Seattle area. Their union was blessed with two sons, Guy David and Todd Bradley. David became involved with the family construction business eventually becoming a general contractor. The family moved to Van Nuys, California. On a visit to his sister’s home in Hibbing, David was introduced to Susan Popilek. The two developed a quick friendship and after a time were united in marriage. David became involved with aircraft manufacturing, a career that took him to Australia for a few years. David eventually returned to Menahga, Minnesota. He bought a Twin lakes property he had dreamed of owning as a child of 12. With the lake on one side and Shell river on the other, his home was the perfect location for his favorite pastime, fishing. After he was retired for a time, he became restless so he purchased the Spirit Lake Motel and CafĂ© which he owned and operated for 10 years. David loved good food and he loved to cook. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a member of Nimrod Lutheran Church in Nimrod, MN. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He will be forever remembered by his two sons, Guy (Laura) Nohrenberg of Simi Valley, CA, Todd Nohrenberg of Palmdale, CA; several grandchildren; two sisters, Edythe (Duane) Schroeder of Hibbing, MN, Carmel Dudley of Reno, NV; 1 uncle, Viljo (Elma) Katainen of Menahga, MN; Susan Popilek of Hibbing, MN; Diana Anderson of CA; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, John Dudley and numerous aunt and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN with Reverend John Ramsbacher officiating. The organist will be Ruthann Kinnunen. Congregational hymns will be “Blessed Assurance” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Special music will be “On Eagle’s Wings.” Active casketbearers will be: David Schroeder, Bryan Myers, David Gilster, Dan Gilster, David Popilek, Dean Gilster, and Terry Gilster. Honorary casketbearers will be Larry Gilster and Jerry Immonen. Interment will be made in the Menahga City Cemetery.

Farewell cousin - You've fought a brave and long battle and you've come out a winner. It was nice seeing you at the reunion last summer. The family is waiting for you "upstairs" with open arms. We can have one heck of a reunion when we all meet you again. God speed my great big teddy bear of a cousin.

It is Clod from the country board.I enjoyed you a lot on the board for several years where we discussed everything from God to inventions and construction details on machinery. You always had the best answers. I also know you as a combat infantry Marine who served in Vietnam in the most difficult times. No doubt that God will reward you for your sacrifices and enjoy your stories. I am not here to say good bye.You have and always will be with me. Great memories never expire.
